Commitment to Safeguarding
Brackenwood Infant School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff, children and volunteers to share this commitment. It is their right to be safe in school and our duty to ensure this.
At Brackenwood Infant School, safeguarding is managed in a number of ways. This includes ensuring the positive behaviour of all children, keeping all children safe on the school site, an effective approach to anti-bullying, protecting children online, supporting children to communciate their thoughts through pupil voice and adhering to all related safeguarding and child protection policies.
Brackenwood Infant School is committed to providing a secure environment for children, in which they feel safe and are kept safe. All adults in our school recognise that safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility irrespective of the role they undertake or whether their role has direct contact or responsibility for children or not.
As part of safeguarding work, we work in partnership with colleagues from other agencies. This includes colleagues from school nursing, social care, community police, children's centres, therapists, paediatricians and other agencies. When we can, our intention is always to consult and work with families to achieve the best outcome for the child. Sometimes circumstances exist which do not allow for the consultation and the school has to take independent action in order to ensure a child is safeguarded.
The safeguarding team at Brackenwood Infant School help to co-ordinate all our work. Please contact us if you need any support or advice.
Prevent
As a school we recognise that safeguarding against radicalisation is no different from safeguarding against any other vulnerability. All staff are expected to uphold and promote the fundamental principles of British values, including democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect, and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.
The Prevent Duty Guidance (under the Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015 ) was released by the Government and places a duty on schools, and other agencies, to “have due regard to the need to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism”. This legal duty came into force on 1st July 2015.
Operation Encompass
Operation Encompass is an initiative that allows police, health, schools and other agencies to share information regarding incidents that may involve violence or aggression at a family home.
Brackenwood Infant School are proud to be part of this important initiative. Details regarding Operation Encompass can be found be selecting the link below.
School Recruitment
At Brackenwood Infant School, our recruitment and selection procedures are in accordance with the DfE guidance ‘Safeguarding Children and Safer Recruitment in Education’ and ‘Keeping children safe in education guidance’ (DfE September 2024).
